Background

My wife's ancestors are Filipino and Mexican. Her father's family is from Laoag, Ilocos Norte Provence, Luzon, and her mother's father is from Magsingal, Ilocos Sur Provence. Her paternal grandfather emigrated to Hawaii in the early 1900s to work on the sugar plantation at Ewa, Oahu. Her mother's mother emigrated to California from Nogales, in the state of Sonora, Mexico. Her mother's father was born in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. His father was born in Villa de Seris, a small town just south of Hermosillo.

Research Results

I've done some research in the Catholic Church baptismal records from Laoag, Ilocos Norte, Philippines (FHL Nos. 1213290 and 1213291). The Corpuz family name is spelled Corpus in these baptismal records. These records aren't indexed, so it was slow going. I've built a database of the records I found pertaining to the related families. See the index in text format, showing the names of child, father, mother, and the baptism and birth dates in the file bautismo.txt (24k). This file is viewable in your browser, and you can save it for later study.

I've also done research in the Catholic Church marriage records for Ilocos Sur [FHL No. 1211771]. I've extracted a number of marriage records from that film for the Unciano and related families, including the Agbisit, Battad, Cortes, Costales, Ranches, Tabon, Tamayo, Udarbe, Ulangea, and Valdez surnames. The essential information about these marriages is in the text file magsingal.txt (22k).

I've also done research in the records from Nogales and Hermosillo, Mexico, both church and civil records, for the Rodriguez and Romero surnames.1 This led me to discover related records for the surnames Elias, Espinosa, Estrella, Sanchez, and Rivera.
