The Family of Sarah Hopkins

Sarah was the second daughter of Ebenezer and Sarah (Lord) Hopkins. She was born on 4 Feb 1749 in Haddonfield, and married Caleb Cresson, son of James and Sarah (Emlen) Cresson, on 7 May 1767. Sarah's younger sister Mary married Caleb's brother Joshua in 1770. The Cressons were a prominent Quaker family in Philadelphia. Sarah died on 12 Sep 1769.* Caleb married 2nd to Annabella Elliott and 3rd to Jane Cox.

* Note: I recently received copies of two letters written by Caleb Cresson to his aunt Mary Armitt about Sarah's illness and death. The first was written on 6d 9m 1769, telling her that Sarah's condition was getting worse, and asking that Mary come to see Sarah. The second letter was written on 12d 9m 1769, 6 days later, giving the news that Sarah had died "about half past twelve in the night," and asking his Aunt to come to the burial next day at 2 o'clock. He also asked her to have Thomas Kite and John Burden invite the people on the list he enclosed (which wasn't with the letter I received). These letters are part of the Morris Wistar Wood Collection at Haverford College Library.
