The Beckett Families of Butler County, Ohio

Jeaneice Beckett Hopkins was a descendant of James Beckett, one of the early settlers in Butler County, Ohio. He was born in Country Antrim, Ireland in 1762. He came to this country and served in the Revolutionary War, volunteering in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. He took up farming in Hanover Township in Butler County with his wife Sarah and his six known children.

There was another Beckett family in Butler County, living in Union Township. John Beckett was born in 1755, also in County Antrim, Ireland. He came to Ohio in the early days, settling on Mill Creek in Hamilton County. He later moved to Liberty Township, Butler County, part of which became Union Township. John also served in the Revolutionary War from Pennsylvania, volunteering at Bedford Cove, Bedford County, Pennsylvania.

I've found no proof that these two men were related, but it seems very possible that they were.

I've prepared two pdf files which contain register reports on the descendants of these two men. They can be downloaded by clicking on the following links:

James Beckett Descendants   §   John Beckett Descendants

I would be very interested in hearing from any Beckett researchers. I know there are mistakes in the two reports above, due to the lack of local records. For example, in at least two cases, I did not know which children were born to which wife in a marriage.
